Summer's Super Foods

Iced Green Tea
Skip the latte and reach for an iced green tea.  People who exercise and drink plenty of green tea actually can lose more weight and shed more unwanted belly fat than non-tea drinkers.  This is because of the chemical catechin which is found in tea - it can boost metabolism and increase fat burn.  Throw in some frozen berries or slices of nectarine, they act as a natural sweetener.  There is also the tea brand Bigelow teas, they come in natural flavors such as Pomegranate Green Tea or Constant Comment Green Tea, brew for iced tea as indicated by the directions on the box and enjoy!

Gazpacho
A cold soup like gazpacho before a meal is not only refreshing but it can also help you lose weight!  People who enjoy a small soup before an entrée consumed significantly fewer calories at meals than people who did not eat appetizers.

Watermelon
Everyone knows that watermelon is a natural thirst quencher, but the disease-fighting vitamin A and C packed into the rosy melon is the real reason it's a super-food.  We assume that because watermelon is so sweet, it must have a lot of sugar, but you can eat two cupcakes and it's just 92 calories.  Grab a slice of watermelon over a soda!  Serve watermelon in your salad with mint, onions, feta, and sprinkle with salt for a summer salad!

Vegetable Kebabs
Almost any vegetable or fruit can be grilled - even spinach!  Besides the usual suspect (zucchini, bell peppers, corn) you can wrap tomatoes and garlic in foil and toss whole heads of cauliflower and broccoli on the barbecue!  Watermelon even is a sweet treat to throw on the grill!

Fruit Salsa
Fruit salsa are a fresh (and light) take on an old standby.  Make your own using whatever fruits are handy - like mangoes, honeydew and cantaloupe - then add cilantro, chopped onions and a squeeze of lime to taste.  Spoon over grilled fish instead of butter, use as a fat-free salad dressing or eat it with chips instead of caloric-bomb nacho cheese or guacamole.
